Benefits of Reading Quran
06 Oct 2018
The Holy Quran is the basis upon which all teachings of Islam are based. Reading the Quran should become a frequent practice in our lives. Not only that, but we should also understand its verses, so that we may be able to practice its teachings correctly and precisely.
“[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.” [Sad, 29]
Muslims are rewarded for reciting the Quran in that they will be among the most noble of Allah’s creations in heaven. In the afterlife, a soul’s position in heaven is determined by how much of the Quran said person recited or memorized in their lifetime.
The significance of the Holy Quran becomes even greater during the month of Ramadan, since it is the month in which the Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
“The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days [should be fasted]. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; so that you will be grateful.” [Al-Baqarah, 185]
Muslims are known to read the Quran more diligently in Ramadan, finishing all thirty chapters throughout the month, sometimes several times, as a way of becoming closer to Allah and purifying their souls. It acts as a shield, protecting Muslims from doing any transgressions or falling into sin.
The benefits of reading Quran are so great, that we should be sure to do so regularly to become closer to Allah and better understand our religion.
